Things to consider before you purchase a hedgehog:
I understand that hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal and may not wish to be played with until the evening hours.
I understand that a hedgehog has its own personality and may not enjoy being handled or played with at all times.
I understand that their quills are sharp and I will get poked on a regular basis.
I understand that hedgehogs have very sharp teeth, and I may get bitten as anything with teeth can and may bite. (Although this is relatively uncommon)
I understand that a hedgehog needs to kept warm (ideal is 74-78 degrees), and will use an appropriate heat source in order to provide the extra warmth my pet requires.
I understand that I may be defecated and urinated on by my hedgehog; especially when it is a baby.
I understand that my hedgehog will need out of cage time to run around and it is up to me to provide a safe environment for it to do so.
I understand that a hedgehog is by nature a solitary creature and may never actively seek me out for attention.
I understand that hedgehogs need a high quality varied diet and I’m willing to provide this no matter the cost.
I understand that my hedgehog will need its cage and water bottle cleaned at least once a week.
I understand that hedgehogs have exercise needs and I will provide a proper wheel and a spacious cage for him/her.
I understand that all animals get sick, injured, or develop problems that will need to be treated by a knowledgeable veterinarian and I will have my hedgehog treated no matter the cost.
I understand that if I cannot afford to care for my hedgehog that the best thing for the hedgehog will be to return it to Crespo's Crazy Critters for proper care and/or medical attention.
I understand that I cannot sell or give away the hedgehog I purchase from Crespo's Crazy Critters and that I must in agreement with the contract return it to Crespo's Crazy Critters to be placed in another home or to live out the remainder of its life in Crespo's Crazy Critters' care.
I understand that a hedgehog is not considered the best pet for a child under the age of 10, but I as an adult will take responsibility for the care and needs of the hedgehog.
I understand that the hedgehog I am purchasing is not to be bred under any circumstance and that if I want a hedgehog for breeding purposes I will ask Crespo's Crazy Critters for a breeder contract.
I understand that purchasing a hedgehog (or any pet) is not to be done lightly and that it is up to me to do as much research as possible before bringing a hedgehog into my home.
If you can answer “yes” to all of these questions then you may proceed with purchasing one of our hedgehogs!

Crespo’s Crazy Critters Hedgehog Policies
Ownership
Crespo’s Crazy Critters retains partial ownership of all babies sold. When you purchase a Crespo’s Crazy Critter hedgehog you are responsible for all care costs including housing, feeding, veterinary care, etc. However, if at any time you decide a hedgehog is not the right pet for you or circumstances change the hedgehog MUST be returned to us at buyers expense/time. You may not sell or give away your hedgehog! Failure to comply with this condition can result in legal action. While this may sound harsh we do this to ensure that the hedgehog we helped to create is always properly cared for and loved.
WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SALE TO ANYONE AT ANYTIME FOR ANY REASON.
Prices
Prices vary by sex, color, and temperament and are listed on our “available babies” page. Prices currently range from $150-$250. (Some rare individuals may be priced higher) Prices may change without notice.
Deposits
We require a $75 non-refundable deposit along with an approved application. The selected hedgehog will be held for you for up to ten days after the approved purchase date. After that time period the hedgehog is again for sale and your deposit is lost. For example, if the approved purchase date is December 14th then you would have until December 24th to pick up your reserved hedgehog. If you do not pick up your hedgehog by the end of the ten day time period the hedgehog will be placed for sale again and your deposit will be forfeited.
The amount of your deposit will be deducted from the balance you owe at pick up.
The deposit can be paid by paypal or cash and must be paid within 24 hours of your request to reserve a baby.
We can hold hedgehogs longer if they are paid in full. Contact us for details if the need be.
We do prefer that you come and pick out your baby in person rather than from a photograph as each hedgehog is an individual and has its own personality. Depending on you and the hedgies some may be more compatible for you than others.
Visitations
We encourage you to visit Crespo’s Crazy Critters to meet, hold, and learn about our hedgehogs. We hope that this will assist you in deciding if a hedgehog is the right pet for you. Since we are a small breeder (with young children and other responsibilities) and we operate out of our home we ask that you contact us to set up a time that you can come by.
Payment
Crespo’s Crazy Critters accepts cash or paypal.
We do not accept personal checks under any circumstance.
Payment in full is expected before any hedgehog leaves Crespo’s Crazy Critters.
Refunds
Crespo’s Crazy Critters takes pet ownership seriously and encourages you to do your research before you decide to purchase a hedgehog. If at anytime you decide hedgehog ownership is not for you the hedgehog must be returned to Crespo’s Crazy Critters at your expense.
There are no refunds. We feel we are not financially responsible if you change your mind about owning a hedgehog.
Please do your research and make sure that this is the type of pet you want prior to committing to ownership
Health
Crespo’s Crazy Critters guarantees that all our hedgehogs to the best of our knowledge are free from any health problems. All baby hedgehogs are guaranteed to be free from congenital problems (A descriptive term for a disease or condition that is present at birth. A congenital disease can be either hereditary or acquired) until 6 months of age. If a hedgehog dies before the age of 6 months we will replace the animal at no charge (shipping or traveling costs are the responsibility of the buyer) if given a necropsy report from a licensed veterinarian stating the nature of the problem was heredity in nature or present at birth.
Crespo’s Crazy Critters is not responsible under any circumstances for any veterinary costs you may incur upon treating your hedgehog.
Hedgehogs over the age of 6 months do not carry a long-term health guarantee.
These guarantees do not include accident, negligence, injury or any treatable or communicable illness, or improper diet, etc.
Colors
Since a hedgehog will not develop its true color until five months of age (after quilling- when the hedgie loses its baby quills and new quills fill in) we cannot guarantee the color of any hedgehog. We do prefer that you come and choose your pet based on personality rather than color.
Carriers
For your safety and the safety of your new pet no hedgehog will leave Crespo’s Crazy Critters unless it is in a secure carrier. The carrier must either latch shut or zip completely shut (as in a cat carrier or small animal carrier). Velcro, snaps, and buttons are not acceptable as secure. If you do not have a carrier or do not purchase one on your own let us know in advance so we can have a carrier available for you to purchase.
Shipping
Rescues/Surrenders
We also operate a rescue for any hedgehog in need of a home. Depending on the situation we will either re-home the hedgie with a qualified applicant or the hedgehog will enjoy the remainder of their days with us and the other hedgies. This is for ALL hedgehogs regardless if they were purchased here or not. We feel that all hedgies should be given the opportunity to have a happy healthy life!
